Tutorial 3 of 6

The Toolbar

The toolbar runs along the left side of the screen. Each icon is a tool — hover over it to see its name and keyboard shortcut. The active tool is highlighted. You can also toggle floating tool labels in Display Settings to keep labels visible next to each icon.

Pen Tool

The pen tool (B) fills cells. Click a cell to toggle it, or click and drag to paint across multiple cells. Use it on any of the editable quadrants — threading, tieups, treadling, or liftplan. The drawdown updates as you paint.

Eraser Tool

The eraser (E) clears cells. Click or drag to remove filled cells. It works on the same quadrants as the pen. Use it to correct mistakes or clear out a section you want to redo.

Line Tool

The line tool (L) draws a straight diagonal of filled cells from where you click to where you release. It's especially useful for threading and treadling, where diagonal sequences (like a straight draw or twill treadling) are common. Instead of clicking each cell one by one, draw the whole diagonal in a single stroke.

Repeat Tool

The repeat tool (R) stamps a repeating pattern as you drag. Set the repeat count in the Tool Settings section of the properties panel. As you drag across cells, the tool tiles the pattern at the specified interval — useful for quickly filling a threading or treadling with a repeating motif.

Pan (H) lets you click and drag to move around the canvas when your draft is larger than the viewport. Zoom (Z) lets you drag horizontally to zoom in and out. Home View resets the canvas to fit the entire draft on screen.

On touch devices, use two-finger drag to pan and pinch to zoom, regardless of which tool is active.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Each drawing tool has a single-key shortcut: B for pen, E for eraser, L for line, R for repeat. Navigation shortcuts: H for pan, Z for zoom. Undo is Ctrl+Z (or Cmd+Z on Mac), redo is Ctrl+Shift+Z.
